Southfield · 46th District Court

Southfield Criminal Defense LawyerCharged in Southfield? I know this courthouse.

Southfield sits on the I-696 and Northwestern Highway corridor, and a large share of the arrests here start as traffic stops that turn into drug, weapon, or OWI charges. I'm a former prosecutor, my office is minutes away in Farmington Hills, and I appear at the 46th District Court regularly.

Southfield Case Review

It seems impossible right now. It isn't. Tell me what happened — we'll go from there.

Is now a bad time to find out where you really stand?

This office only helps people currently accused of a crime — ideally before charges are filed, or right after arrest. If that's not you, I'm not the right attorney. If it is, every hour matters. Don't wait until Monday.

Where your case is heard

46th District Court — and what happens next

Almost every Southfield case begins at the 46th District Court on Evergreen Road. Misdemeanors stay there start to finish. Felonies begin there too — arraignment, probable cause conference, then preliminary examination — before they are bound over to the Oakland County Circuit Court in Pontiac.

The probable cause conference is where most Southfield felonies are actually won or reshaped. It happens fast, usually within two weeks of arraignment, and it is the first real chance to attack the stop, the search, or the charging decision before the case gets momentum. Showing up unrepresented at that hearing is how good cases turn into pleas.

Because so much Southfield enforcement comes off the freeway corridors, the strongest defense is frequently the stop itself: why the vehicle was pulled over, how long the driver was held, whether consent to search was genuinely given, and whether a K-9 sniff was justified. I request the in-car and body camera video in every one of these cases.
